i have thick poofy hair, and no matter how i get it cut / thinned nothing ever works, i have a salon flat iron but it takes about an hour to dry it cause its so thick and then another hour to totally straighten my hair after a half an hour i just give up and put my bangs and hair up.
I've tried all the products like herbal essences dangerously straight, frizz ease, fructis sleek and shine, tresemme, and even biosilk doesnt work for me.
I have no more ideas for what to do with my hair, and it's geting to the point where im so sick of trying to fit in 2 hours before work/school/going out just to do my hair.
Next paycheck im thinking of buying a chi straightener, but i've heard they break and i dont wanna spend almost 200 dollars for something thats going to break again?

it works so well. it drys and straightens your hair at the same time. i have thick hair too and it really works and in like half an hour my hair gets completely dry and straight. but you still need a flat iron just for the tips if you want them really straight but that only take a minute or two

Chi is a very good straightener and it wont take an hour to straighten your hair. Try T3, GHD, or proselect straighteners. i have thick hair too and my hair straightens flat in less than 10 minutes with my ghd straightener.
Thick, poofy hair?
I have the EXACT same hair.
I also tried everything, and longed for the nice shiny hair that everyone else could get by straightening their hair in 6 minutes.
Here are some things that, though will never give me salon results, do make a HUGE difference:
Leave your conditioner in for a long, long time. I have medium length hair and keep it in for about 4 minutes. It makes your hair heavier and keeps the frizzies down.
Do invest in a nice straightener. They actually do work. You have to section your hair into about a million little pieces, and it takes forever, and you have to go very very slowly. But, the results are that nice, shiny, perfectly straight hair that you always wanted.
I just sort of embraced my thick hair. I put mouse in it, scrunch it a little and go. I kinda like how thick it is now, and I get compliments all the time. Before, when I straightened I didn't get any. At least we won't be bald when we are old! hahaha

Thick, poofy hair?
K so my hair ISNT think but its seriously poofy.
REALLY poofy.
So what i do is...
use sunsilk de-poofer.
buy the shampoo the conditioner AND the 24/7 creme.
then go and straighten it.
however you want to.
but after you straighten it do this.
part your hair down in half.
take one half and wrap it around your head.
keep it tight with BOBBY PINS.
Use only bobby pins.
then get the other half and do the same.
this really helps and if you sleep with it...even better.
if you want you can try straightening in the morning for touch ups but that wont be nessesary.
lol.
anyways... um... i hope it helps.
it does for me.

I also have thick hair, yeah its tough having thick hair, i suggest using Matrix Biolage for thick coarse hair, its a shampoo and they sell a conditioner also for thick coarse hair. After using both blow dry your hair dont make it completely dry though, and yes buy a CHI iron it works great at getting rid of volume that thick hair gives us. CHI has a great return policy, you can return it at anytime to any salon that sells them and they give you a new CHI that works absolutely free and you don't even need a receipt !!! oh yeah and some run for a 100 dollars.

Don't waste your money on addtiional irons, have you tried a mild relaxer, just to help straighten the hair slightly (makes it more manageable) that usually helps. (a mild relaxer is not that harsh on the hair (no-lye).
Thick, poofy hair?
I have the same problem but my hair is long so its not that poofy. I use aussie and sometimes sunsilk. But aussie works the best for me. I use the "root cleanser + tip mender" brand of aussie it works wonders. you should try it. they got it at walmart for like $4.00. Good luck

Chis are amazing straiteners. They have warrantees for them too. I have thick poofy hair as well, I take showers at night, and then i go to bed, then in teh morning straiten my hair. it works cuz my hair is already dry, all i have to do is straiten it. Also, try sunsilk's anti-poof shampoo, it works wonders. Also, try using a leave-in-conditioner after you get out of the shower. Also, if you go to a beauty store where they sell beauty products, they have this straitening spray by ion. Its heat protection, so it protects your hair and gets it way straiter.
