Any ceramic straighteners from salons are great. They take seconds to heat up, have a reasonable price, and last long!... I've compared muliple store bought straighteners to salon bought straighteners and have come to conclusion that I perfer salon bought ones better. :)

I have a Revlon now. It is okay. I used to have a hot tools so I got spoiled. The good thing about the Revlon straightener is that it is inexpensive less than $30. If I turn mine up on the highest heat it will straighten ok. It is very durable. I have dropped mine several times. If you get a chance try Hot Tools Ceramic it is hard to find but worth it.

I have a Revlon straightener though I'm not sure what model it is.

I have blonde fair short razor cut hair and it seems to work alright, though it doesn't get all the kinks out of it. My hair has curl in it so I do have to blow dry it straight prior to using the iron.

If I had a choice of buying this or the professional iron they use at my salon, I'd buy the professional one for sure.

I swear by my chi. All the other brands that I have ever purchased...Revlon, Conair, remington,....don't come close in comparison..AT ALL. If you're really unsure, ask your hairdresser. They will be able to suggest a good product that doesn't come near the price.

I have tried Revlon's flat ironers and it is ok. The heat doesnt go really high and the revlon flat ironer had broke because one of the buttons were too hard to turn. So I'd say no, Revlon is not second best compared to the chi.

but now i have switched to wigo jade flat ironers and it is inexpensive but the best i have used. I had it for about 5 months now. The heat is good, the buttons work, and it really straightens my hair

My recent straghtener broke and im going out to buy a new one this weekend...ive heard of the straightener called CHI....its suppose to be good for your hair and wont dry it out ot damage your hair like the rest of them.....Ive been looking into them and they have a whole bunch of different kinds...i seen a pink one, turbo, and original and i dont remeber the rest...which one is the best one????....

Ceramic is always going to be your best bet. But all flat irons will damage your hair, especially if you have colored hair. Always make sure that you use a serum of some kind before you straighten, other wise, before you know it, your hair will look dry and damaged.

T3 is amazing. i absolutely love mine.

it will make your hair shiny and soft.

also has a 4 yr warranty.

the tourmaline jewels in the T3 will emit the most ions to dry your hair in half the time. if drying time is a problem definetely consider the T3!

How do you scrunch your hair? I have natuarlly whacky curly/frizzy out of control hair so I straighten it everyday for 2 hours (I have a Chi). I was wondering if I scrunched my hair if it would look good on me. I haven't left my hair curly in 7 years. Any advice on how to scrunch hair and what products to use?

I actually love the Redken stuff..(some of it) I have wavy hair but when I really want some curl in it..after I towel dry my hair I do not brush I put some of curl force 17 texturizing spray-gel and scrunch it...I simply grab my hair and tighten it...with the hair between my fingers (do it as if you were playing with a squishy ball)...that is for a good hold for an everyday thing I use the ringlet 07 curl perfector I do the same thing (but sometimes I do brush it) but this one leaves a nice loose curl and ur hair is super soft! here is the website check it out..YES they are expensive products but sooooo worth it..u might want to try the travel size first (they are around $4) on both to see how ur hair likes it....=)

I too have very curly hair I use Aussie Sprunch Spray and some moose but my hair is very fine. You may need to use something else if yours is thick.

I would get a moose (sp?). rub it in your hands and and grab pieces of your hair all over your head. then just let it dry. matrix products are my favorite

I use plenty of mousse, hairspray and a little gel. Turn your head upside down and apply products that way first. Be sure to scrunch hair and push hair up to your hhead.. face upright and apply more product.

chi products will be too heavy to use if you have curley hair and want curley hair. Scruples makes a great curl line... it actually will probably be alot heatlier for your hair to stop the hot iron everyday. use a curl shampoo cond and follow up with a spritz.... spritz it in when your head it turned upside down and dry it with a difusser dryer.. hope it helps

I have the same kind of hair. I use herbal essences mousse or alberto V05. When your hair is wet, flip your head over and squeeze some mousse into your hands. Run it through your strands, making sure you don't miss any spots, and then scrunch it. flip your head over and shake your hair out. use your fingers to fluff up certain areas so you get volume, but not too much.Let it air dry. it will look really pretty when it dries.

DON'T rub your head with a towel it willl make you hair frizzy. then take a 'scrunching spray' or hair gel works well, put some in your hair and scrunch every section of you hair, scrunch it toward your roots.

i use Aussie scrunch mousse and what i do is i let my hair dry a little when i get out of the shower because i dont want to product to get watered down and flip it upside down and just work the product through my hair usuallly grabbing the ends of my hair and just like bundling it up to my roots. then i put it in a bun and usually sleep on it cause it gives it time to dry. when i take it out walah. its scrunched. you dont have to put it in the bun you can probably just let it dry but i hate having wet hair on my back so thats why i do that. hope this helps!

I don't know why your friend told you not to buy an expensive one, but I say never buy a cheap one, they will cause your hair to damage. The only thing you should use is 100% ceramic or tourmaline ceramic plates, which usually cost more. Drugstore irons are usually just metal plates that have a thin ceramic coating. This may cause hot spots that can damage your hair. I have thin frizzy damage prone hair and I use a sedu because it has even heat and won't snag my hair.

I hate to say it but if your hair is that bad you should not be using a cheap one. THe only people that can get away with using cheap ones is people with very healthy strong hair in the first place. The only one that MAYBE is good is the new one with teflon coating, I think is a remington. Do NOT get a conair, it will make your hair worse. And your mom is right about the wet to straight, you should never use any kind of iron on wet hair, especially damaged hair, without breaking or weakenin hair more. You will have to decide if you want to damage your hair more or just save your money for a better one. One option is to buy a generic Chi at Sally beauty supply for less.

Whatever you decide, you MUST use a heat protectant product to protect your hair from further damage/drying out, try Matrix iron smoother, or tresemme heat tamer, or any other heat protectant product before you style. Good luck!

The one I have I got from a beauty supply store. I would check out their selection 1st. The ones at WalMart and Meijer never work well for me because they don't get hot enough. I have the Helen of Troy and it works great. In my opinion, buying a good one is worth the money. Good Luck!

The only great ones are the ones with ceramic plates. It will straighten and take out the frizz. Not to mention they get hotter than the cheap ones so they straighten faster. They are really worth the investment. If you can't convince your mom to buy one then see if you can raise some money yourself (babysitting or doing extra chores) maybe if you save half the money she might be willing to put in the $40 she was willing to spend on the other one. If you have to get a cheap one then make sure you get a balm to put on your hair first that is a smoother and helps with the heat damage to your hair. It will help make it silkier.

they're normally about 25 dollars. They have a wide surface and a comb so you can straighten more at once and the comb makes the hair really smooth. another thing to use before you straighten is V05 styling products and there is a pre straightening product that is only about 3 dollars and makes hair really smooth.

i have the remington wet to straight and i love it. my mom uses it too. and she has super puffy frizzy curly hair and it gets her hair straight and its really nice if you dont have time to blow dry. i really suggest that you get it. my friend has really curly hair and uses it and she straightens her hair fast. it heats up in 60 seconds max its really nice

Hi there,

I've also fought with finding a good flat iron. First most important thing - there is a HUGE difference between a drug store brand iron and a professional-type one. Once you try the professional one, you'll never go back.

Second, I'm not sure what you mean by horrible hair. If it's highly textured, you just need to get a flat iron that heats up higher - some go up to 410 degrees F. You never want to go too hot, but stubborn hair, especially textured really needs the extra heat. If your problem is frizz, always use the flat iron with a flat iron product. A really good one is called FHI Hot Sauce. (costs way less than the Chi products). It moisturizes the hair and protects from the iron.

In terms of the actual iron, here are a couple of things to look for. The newest technology is anything with Tourmaline in it. These are crushed up gem stones that give off a negative charge so that they neutralize the hair's positive charges so that you're frizz free. Tourmaline also is combined with ceramic far-infrared technology to leave hair even smoother. A really good, semi-inexpensive tourmaline iron is called the Cricket StraightCrazy Tourmaline Ceramic Straightening Iron. It's a little bit over your $40 price range at $54, but the extra $14 is well worth it. If you're absolutely set at the under $40 range, try the 2" Flat Iron by Hot Tools (a divison of Helen of Troy), which is only $36. Hot Tools and Helen of Troy products work really well - they're kind of like an intermediate product between drug store and something that they'd use at a salon.

Now, that being said, if you and your mom really want to splurge and get the best iron that will last for years and years, check out irons by FHI heat. There are two kinds, Technique Series and Platform Series. The technique has a fixed temperature of 410 degrees F (super hot) and is awesome for textured hair. These cost less than $80. The Platform series have adjustable temperature that ranges from 140-450 degrees F, which I think is better so that you can find the heat that's best for you. These start at $144. BUT, once you try it, you won't even consider using anything else.

you cant beat GHD. you need to use good quality hair products first then use v05 silky smooth on just washed hair. when dry section hair then straighten it with the irons. in between washes, use a tiny amount of hair serum on the ends and section and use irons again. If your hair is thick, you need more heat. So a chi is ceramic, which heats up hotter and stays hotter between each section use.

But before you go and spend 100$ get the Paul Mitchell serum. that's the good stuff.

OMG!! CHI is amazing!!

If you can afford it and have a carrier nearby, get some "Straight Sexy Hair" straightening cream [by sexy hair], or the cheaper Herbal Es senses Dangerously Straight cream [not too much, it gets greasy...] from, like, Wal mart.

Then, Spray hair evenly with heat protecting spray. [sexy hair has one, and i love it, but there are many at drugstores that work]

USE A CHI FLAT IRON, I LOVE THEM!!! they work for everybody!!

If your hair is really, really curly and kinda puffy, spray it with some aerosol hair spray to hold it, Pantene makes a really good one.

I have decieded to go natural because im getting tired of perms...i haven't gotten a perm in about 4-5 months but whenever i use my chi iron it flatens it out as if i had a perm...my mom told me that if i don't cut off my permed hair that it will break off but i don't think so...my hair is somewhat long and is hard to manage when its wet and so wavy, but so easy to manage when i use the chi. i guess my questions are: will my hair break off if i don't cut off the permed hair??? and when i grow out the permed hair, and when i flat iron it, will it still look the same??? also, is this even a good idea because i don't think i will ever wear it as a fro, i just want to flat iron it everytime and i just want the full-ness i used to have when i was a child.

1) You can use hair curlers and hair gel to make it tightly curly and put it in a pony tail, or make dreds (but that's like a lifetime commitment)

2) You can cut it shoulder-length and straighten it, and that opens up so many different hairstyles. TIP: Go to seventeen.com for a few.

Your permed hair won't break out unless you're putting your flat iron to it without heat protection like a thermal spray. You still need to get trims every 6 weeks to clip off the split ends (they occur easier on chemically treated/relaxed hair).

Your flat iron will make your natural hair look like it did when you got it relaxed. Make sure you use the thermal spray EVERY time (natural hair is more brittle). I love CHI Iron Guard spray, and it holds your hair...even in humidity it won't get frizzy or wavy unless you sweat a lot.

hi! i am mixed also, and i went in for a relaxer and my stylist made sure that i knew what i was getting myself into before she put those harmful chemicals into my curly hair. and i'll tell you rite now, after what she told me i just gave up on getting a relaxer and now i just stick to straightening it with a flat iron. there is nothing wrong with getting a relaxer but just make sure u kno wat u r doing b4 u get one. think long and hard about it, bcuz curls are a blessing. And to answer ur question, yes i dont see why it wouldnt look rite if u got ur hair layered and cut, but would u really want to give up ur curls 4 ever?

ive tried matrix,chi, paul mitchel, redken and special effects lasted me 5 good weeks with little fading. all the other ones barely lasted 2 weeks with lots fading i also use artec shampoo for reds. ive never tried RAW so am wondering which one lasts longest RAW or special effects. thanx

I personally dont know of any red colors that tend to last longer then others, i tend to like matrix and redkins red lights more so then any of the other lines, but it is also in the way you take care of the color after its in your hair. with red i always advise my clients to not wash for a few days after they get it colored. just to let it set in then i also tell them to wash with cool water and use a very cold (as cold as you can stand it) shot of water or your final rinse to close the cuticle of your hair to prevent the color from slipping out.

If you're flying from the USA, don't forget that it is considered as an international flight, so they could end up taking it from you either going or coming back. Best bet, put it in your suitcase and not the carry on. I had my favorite comb taken from me in London Heathrow last year because of safety concerns. Had I realized that they'd consider it a potential weapon, I'd put it in the suitcase and not my carry on.

Hello everyone! I am going to the rodeo this coming weekend (3-3-07) and I am tired of having the same hair style. I have dark blonde hair, 1 inch past my shoulder, layers, side bangs, and a long oval shaped face %26amp; big green eyes. My hair is naturally wavy. I usally straighten it with a Chi Turbo (the red one!) or make my hair curly with the Aussie Scrunch Spray (love it!). Oh....did I mention that my hair is thin and super damaged from my Chi!?!?! It has no volume at all...when it does get volume it only last for about 2 hours. I'm looking for something cute that would last for the whole night....up-do's, down-do's(lol), anything will work! First of all we know heat is an ouch to hair. Sooo you can try baby oil for a couple hrs wash and then drench it with baby oil then make sure that you really rinse it out and be sure to use a great shampoo and cond. Also you might want to see a hair stylist to give you help you might also try to get a shampoo that has a sptriper in it to get the product out to give it lift. If you use the same brand of shampoo change it every other time.
