I've been researching the CHI for awhile, and I was almost sold until I heard that lately the models have been faulty. I've read stories where the CHI would smoke, catch on fire, or stop working after a few months. I have thick, wavy, course hair, and I'm sure the CHI could make it shiney and smooth, but will it damage it? And what's the chance it will turn out to be faulty?
Any input would be nice. (:
Any problems with the CHI flat iron?
Do NOT get CHI. my family went thru 5 CHI in 3 yrs. Chi breaks within a few months and you have to pay $35 plus shipping to get it fixed. Their warranty is worthless!
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission just announced a recall of Chi flat irons due to fire and burn hazards:

I think you can get a warranty on it for like a year. I've heard that also but you never know how people care for their flat irons (i.e., wrapping the cord, dropping it on the floor, leaving it on unattended).
If you take care of it you should be fine. I have a Sedu and it works great. If all fails you can get a Sedu or Solia.
Any problems with the CHI flat iron?
As a stylist, I have used a lot of flat irons, including Sedu, HAI, Infrashine, Chi, Paul Mitchell, Solia, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss GHD, T3, Kenta etc.
In terms of performance:
The best ones are: Sedu, Kenta, Solia, Infrashine, GHD. These are top of the line professional brands
Above average: CHI, HAI, Paul Mitchell,
Average: T3, Big Sexy, Andis, Babyliss
Worst: Conair, Vidal Sassoon, Revlon etc. These are cheap consumer brands that you will find in drugstore. If you care about your hair, DO not buy them.
